Embarking on Adventure Trails

Surrounded by a variety of different eco systems, the hotel is situated at the foot of the Hunasgiriya mountain range and offers panoramic views of undulating valleys. Guests at Hunas will appreciate that the hotel is not only eco friendly but is geared to excite the adventurous nature trekker looking forward to exploring the fascinating surroundings of this beautiful hotel. The main trails conducted by the hotel include the Shaheen, Simpson and Hunasgiriya trails.

The Shaheen trail takes trekkers along a rocky mountain range which is known to be the habitat of the Shaheen falcon. While the peak of the mountain is visible from the hotel, the access point to the mountain range is accessible through a footpath. The reforested area is now the habitat for a diverse range of birds including the White bellied Sea Eagle, Common King Fisher, Brahminy Kite, Layard's Parakeet and more.

The Simpson's Forest is a sub montane patch of forest which extends towards the Wattegama Elkanda Road and is located at an elevation of about 1300m above sea level. The name for the forest is derived from a former planter who was involved in protecting the triangular green patch as a watershed. The trek involves walking through a tea plantation which is interspersed with exotic plants and fern species. The path way that leads to Simpson's Forest offers guests a breathtaking view of the mountains and the undulating terrain of scattered mountains and valleys along with a clear view of Kandy and Matale.

The Hunasgiriya summit located at 1490 meters above sea level and offers guests who make it to the summit a panoramic view of the Knuckles range, Victoria reservoir, Kandy, Hantane range, Bible Rock and more.

Guests will be accompanied by the resident naturalist who has over 14 years worth of experience and will be more than happy to point out the endemic species of fauna and flora in the area.
